CoSIDA honors softball players for academic achievement

The College Sports Information Directors of America named the 2008 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American Softball Team, led by Angela Tincher of Virginia Tech and Maria Bye of St. Thomas (Minnesota).

Tincher, a senior pitcher, is one of three finalists for the USA Softball National Player of the Year. She owns a 36-7 record and a 0.61 ERA. She holds the Atlantic Coast Conference record for career wins with 121 and is third on the NCAA all-time strikeouts list with 2,089.

Bye, also a senior pitcher, led St. Thomas to a 42-5 record this season, with a personal record of 21-2 and a 1.29 ERA. Her career ERA is 0.99 and she has struck out 702 batters in that time. Her career batting average is .403 with 37 home runs and 175 RBI.
