Former UCLA baseball student-athlete Jackie Robinson leads a class of 12 former coaches and student-athletes elected to the College Baseball Hall of Fame this week.
Robinson, who went on to break Major League Baseball’s color barrier when he played for the Brooklyn Dodgers, also competed in football, basketball, and track and field while at UCLA.
Also honored will be former student-athletes Steve Arlin, who played at Ohio State; Eddie Bane, Arizona State; Floyd Bannister, Arizona State; Neal Heaton, Miami; Burt Hooten, Texas; Dick Howser, Florida State (posthumously); Ben McDonald, LSU; and Greg Swindell, Texas. Also elected was Gary Ward, who coached at Oklahoma State and New Mexico State.
The induction ceremony and celebration will be July 2-4 in Lubbock, Texas.
