More than 150 coaches, friends and colleagues joined forces at the inaugural 4Kay Golf Classic on September 8 to raise awareness and money for cancer research through the Kay Yow/Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Cancer Fund in partnership with The V Foundation.

The event in Dallas was staged to support North Carolina State women’s basketball coach Kay Yow as she faces her third bout with breast cancer. The Classic served as the second national event with all proceeds benefiting the fund. The amount raised will be announced later.

Yow is a past president and founding member of the WBCA and serves as a leader and a galvanizing voice for the organization. She was an Olympic gold medal-winning head coach in 1988 and coached North Carolina State to the Women’s Final Four in 1998. She also is a Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame inductee (2000) and a Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame inductee (2002).

First diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987, Yow won the inaugural Jimmy V ESPY for Perseverance at the 2007 ESPY Awards.
