Central Arkansas has canceled classes for today and locked down its residence halls after a shooting Sunday night killed two students and wounded a third. Campus police received a call at 9:19 p.m. October 26 reporting shots fired, according to the school’s Web site.

One victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other injured victims were transported to Conway Regional Medical Center, where one of the victims died. The other was treated and released. The names of the victims will not be released until their relatives are notified.

The school’s residence halls and the student center were immediately locked down after the incident was reported. However, the campus itself is not locked down, although school officials say officers are posted at every campus entrance.

The university deployed an automated alert system immediately after the incident was reported, and every residence hall was contacted by telephone to instruct officials to secure the facilities and restrict access to the buildings. E-mails were sent to student, faculty and staff e-mail systems, as well as the Safe@UCA e-mail listserv.
