Charlotte Westerhaus, NCAA vice president for diversity and inclusion, will be among the panelists appearing at the upcoming Black Women in Sports Foundation’s annual conference later this month.
The 14th annual conference will be held April 18-19 in Kansas City at the Hyatt Regency Crown Center.
Westerhaus will join Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Executive Director Beth Bass on the panel for an April 19 session entitled, “Leadership: Getting the Team to Follow.”
Other conference sessions will focus on sports management, coaching and career development and will feature speakers such as Kimberly Fields of the NFL’s Minnesota Vikings, Judy Heeter from the Major League Baseball Players Association, several collegiate coaches, and two former NCAA all-Americans, Felicia Hall-Allen and Tracy Ellis-Ward, who currently hold sports management positions.
The foundation also will host an all-sports clinic on April 19 for more than 300 local middle school girls, who will learn basic techniques in tennis, fencing, lacrosse and basketball. Later that same evening, the group will honor Negro League baseball legend Mamie “Peanut” Johnson, rhythmic gymnastics Olympian Wendy Hilliard, former fencer and current Temple head fencing coach Nikke Franke, golfer Renee Powell and basketball standout Cynthia Cooper during the Legend’s Ball.
The cost of the annual conference is $150 for professionals and $100 for students. Onsite registration will be available at a cost of $200 for professionals and $150 for students.
The Black Women in Sports Foundation was established in 1992 to facilitate the involvement of black women in every aspect of sport in the United States and around the world through hands-on development and management of grass roots outreach programs
