Three of four NCAA track and field championship team trophies awarded over the weekend now reside in Abilene, Texas.

Abilene Christian swept the Division II Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships titles -- not a big surprise, as those teams now have accomplished the feat seven times -- and McMurry won the Division III Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships to claim its first national team title in any sport.

The two schools also brought home a total of 12 individual-event trophies -- five won by the Abilene Christian men, four by the Wildcat women and two by the McMurry men, as well as Holly Rollins’ pole vault victory for McMurry in the Division III Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Abilene Christian now has won seven straight men’s outdoor team titles and 18 overall, in addition to 12 men’s indoor track and field titles, while the Wildcat women have won nine outdoor championships and 13 indoor crowns.

Abilene, a community of about 115,000 residents in central Texas, is home to three NCAA member schools. McMurry’s Division III and American Southwest Conference rival Hardin-Simmons also is located in the city.
