Study will update research on women’s career barriers
The NCAA is updating the 1989 study “Perceived Barriers to Women in Intercollegiate Athletics Careers” at the recommendation of the Committee on Women’s Athletics.
The Association will survey female athletics administrators and coaches to determine what influences women’s careers, what motivates women to seek careers in athletics and what obstacles institutions may face in recruiting and retaining women. Once the survey is completed and data are compiled, the CWA hopes to work with institutions in developing strategies to encourage and support women in intercollegiate athletics.
Separate surveys will be disseminated for coaches and administrators.
Female student-athletes will be surveyed through the Student-Athlete Advisory Committees, and female officials will also be asked to respond to surveys later this year.
Women are asked to take the survey only once, even if they hold several different positions at their institutions, like a coach who also has administrative duties.

Travel expenses
New online system permits filing for reimbursement
The NCAA travel staff has introduced a new online meeting reimbursement system.
The Travel Expense System will allow travelers attending NCAA meetings and championship participants to file their requests for per diem and travel expense reimbursement electronically.
By streamlining the reimbursement process, this system will allow the NCAA travel and finance staffs to shorten the reimbursement process by about 75 percent.
Users may use the following Web address (www1.ncaa.org/finance/travel/index.html) to electronically file expenses. The site also features a user guide and a Web cast.
