Change of printing press prompts different page size
It’s not your imagination that your copy of The NCAA News is a different shape than previous editions. That is because the News is now being printed on the presses used to print The Indianapolis Star. The News previously had been printed in a facility in Marion, Indiana.
To accommodate the Star press, each News page now is about an inch narrower than previous editions. Despite the size change, the News retains the paper’s standard text font and size (New Baskerville, 10 point).
NCAA Directory
New membership tool offers online school information
NCAA Membership Services is providing a new online tool for finding contact and sport-sponsorship information for all members of the Association.
The centralized, online directory is accessible to the membership by logging in with an institution’s six-digit organization identification number. It can be accessed from the NCAA Web site by pulling down the “About the NCAA” menu and clicking on “Membership,” then selecting “The NCAA Directory” under the Membership Overview heading.
Information for the online directory is transferred directly from the NCAA membership database. Listings contained in the directory are an up-to-date reflection of information reported to the national office by each member institution throughout the academic year.
Members may update listings at any time using the links provided on the directory site, on the sports-sponsorship and demographic form, or by contacting the membership database manager. It is the responsibility of all members (active, provisional, conferences, affiliated and corresponding) to keep all listed information up to date.
There are several new features in the online directory:
- Lists of sports sponsored.
- Lists of individual sport division.
- Lists of sport-specific conferences.
- Notation of reclassification division if institution is reclassifying.
- List of all schools in the reclassification process.
- Hot links to e-mail contacts and additional information concerning specific sports and conferences.
Although the general public does not have access to the online NCAA Directory, it also can access useful information from the database reports. That information can be obtained through the “About the NCAA” menu on the “Membership” Web page, under the following links: “Lists of NCAA Schools and Conferences by Division,” and “Lists of NCAA Schools and Conferences by Sport.”

Research
Panel solicits proposals from graduate students
The NCAA Research Committee is accepting research proposals for the 2007 NCAA Graduate Student Research Grant Program. Proposals must be within the general topic area of student-athlete well-being and college athletics participation. Research grants are available for graduate students and are intended to support the student while conducting research to be used for academic pursuits.
Applications will be judged on the importance of the topic to the field and to the NCAA, strength of methodological approach, appropriateness of proposed analyses, the innovative nature of the project and the proposed budget.
The maximum award is $5,000. The deadline for all proposals is May 1, 2007. For more information, including specific guidelines and requirements, see www.ncaa.org.
