Stevie Baker-Watson was named assistant athletics director at North Central … Glenville State hired Cam Perry. Perry also coaches the school’s track and field teams … James Reid was promoted to assistant athletics director at Angelo State.

Baseball — Eastern Michigan hired Jake Boss Jr. … Texas-Arlington named Darin Thomas head baseball coach to replace Jeff Curtis … Mike Sarno was hired at Becker.

Men’s basketball — Florida State extended men’s basketball coach Leonard Hamilton’s contract by two years. The agreement extends through the 2011-12 season … Fordham’s Dereck Whittenburg signed a contract extension through the 2012-13 season.

Men’s basketball assistant — Maryland hired Joe Harrington.

Women’s basketball — Beth Dunkenberger agreed to a contract extension at Virginia Tech, keeping her at the institution through 2010-11.

Women’s basketball assistant — Michael Enos joined the staff at Rhode Island College.
Field hockey — Georgetown selected Tiffany Marsh.

Football — Houston Nutt has been released as head coach at Arkansas. Defensive coordinator Reggie Herring will lead the Razorbacks in their bowl game … Chan Gailey has been dismissed after six seasons at the helm of the Georgia Tech program … Ted Roof was released at Duke after a 1-11 season … Mike Sherman was selected at Texas A&M to replace Dennis Franchione, who resigned … Monte Coleman was named at Arkansas-Pine Bluff … Indiana extended head football coach Bill Lynch’s contract by four years. Lynch, who was promoted to head coach after the death of Terry Hoeppner earlier this year, led the Hoosiers to a 7-5 record … Kent Briggs was released from Western Carolina, effective at the end of the season … Towson extended Gordy Comb’s contract through the 2010 season … Baylor released head football coach Guy Morriss after five seasons … Michigan announced the retirement of head football coach Lloyd Carr. Carr will remain with the Wolverines as an associate athletics director. He was with Michigan for 28 seasons, 13 as head coach. Carr will coach the team in its bowl appearance … Alcorn State terminated Johnny Thomas’ contract … Rhode Island let Tim Stowers go … Southern Utah did not renew Wes Meier’s contract … Mississippi released Ed Orgeron … Bill Callahan left Nebraska … Southern signed Pete Richardson to a three-year contract extension … North Carolina extended Butch Davis’ contract … Florida A&M released Rubin Carter.

Men’s and women’s ice hockey — Robert Morris signed head men’s ice hockey coach Derek Schooley to a two-year contract extension through May 2013. Schooley was named the program’s first head coach in 2003.

Men’s and women’s lacrosse — Becker hired Samly Phonesavanh as its head women’s coach.

Men’s and women’s lacrosse assistants — Larry Cerasi and Matt Miller were named assistants at Farmingdale State.

Men’s and women’s soccer — Chris Webb resigned as women’s coach at Elon … Wyoming announced the resignation of Anne Moore … Alabama women’s soccer coach Don Staley resigned … Rutgers-Newark selected Wojtek Krakowiak to lead its women’s program.

Men’s and women’s volleyball — Julie Krofcheck resigned at Indiana State … Jason Dibelius will lead the men’s program at CCNY.

Corrections
The Defining Moments story in the November 5 edition of The NCAA News that described the first Women’s Final Four referred to the wrong facility as host of the games. The 1982 semifinals and final were held at Norfolk Scope, a 10,270 seat arena in downtown Norfolk, Virginia, rather than at the Old Dominion University fieldhouse, which housed the school’s women’s basketball team.

Former Syracuse football player Jim Ringo died at 75 … Former Northern Illinois football standout Jerry Meyers died on November 16 … Former Florida State athletics director Hansel Tookes died. He was 86 … Maryville (Tennessee) assistant football coach Cody Bowers died in a car accident on November 19 … Washington Redskins star and former Miami (Florida) standout Sean Taylor died November 27 after being shot in his home. Taylor was 24 … Kyle Broyles, the son of Pittsburg State Athletics Director and head football coach Chuck Broyles, died November 14.
