Alabama A&M selected Kelly Austin as its new athletics director … Maryland-Eastern Shore named Keith Davidson director of athletics … Jason Fein was named director of athletics at College of Staten Island. A member of the athletics department for nearly a decade, Fein began as the school’s assistant director of athletics and sports information director in 1999 … Indiana signed Rick Greenspan to an extension through June 2013 … Doug Peters was named director of athletics at Minnesota State-Moorhead … DePaul director of athletics Jean Lenti Ponsetto signed a five-year contract extension that will run through 2012. Ponsetto is now in her fifth year as director of athletics and 32nd as a member of the Blue Demon family. During her five years at the helm, 13 of the 15 Blue Demon athletics programs have represented the school in NCAA championships.
Associate director of athletics
Nona Richardson was named senior associate athletics director at UC Davis. She previously served as associate director of athletics at Ball State.

Men’s basketball — Michael Perry will not return at Georgia State … Evansville announced the resignation of Steve Merfeld … Royce Waltman was not retained at Indiana State … Ray Giacoletti resigned his post at Utah, effective at season’s end … Todd Lee inked a two-year contract extension with Kentucky Wesleyan … Illinois State released Porter Moser after four years … Frank Sullivan will not return to the Harvard sidelines after 16 seasons … Binghamton reassigned head coach Al Walker within the department. Walker coached the Bearcats for seven seasons … Steve Kelly resigned his post at Mercy. Kelly served as head coach for the past 11 seasons … Brad Holland won’t return to San Diego, where he has served as head men’s basketball coach for the past 13 seasons. Women’s basketball – Kentucky Wesleyan awarded head coach Ron Williams a contract extension that will keep him with the program for at least two more seasons … Gail Striegler has resigned her post as head coach at Central Florida. During her eight-year tenure with the program, Striegler compiled a 106-128 record … Valecia Tedder resigned her post from Francis Marion. In five seasons at the helm, Tedder guided the Patriots to a 56-86 record … John Ishee signed a three-year contract at Southeast Missouri State … Michigan coach Cheryl Burnett announced her retirement. Burnett coached for four seasons in Ann Arbor. She led Southwest Missouri State to the Women’s Final Four in 1992 and 2001 … LSU head coach Pokey Chatman announced her resignation. Chatman led the Lady Tigers to two Final Fours since taking over as head coach in 2004. During her tenure, Chatman was 90-14 … Jill Poe will not return to St. Francis (Pennsylvania) … Cincinnati coach Laurie Pirtle announced her retirement … Central Michigan will not renew the contract of coach Eileen Kleinfelter … Duquesne coach Dan Durkin resigned after 14 seasons with the program.
Men’s and women’s cross country — Florida Southern tabbed Jose Larios as its cross country and track and field coach. He will succeed A.L. Dawson … Southern New Hampshire added Jaime Gratton as men’s cross country coach. He succeeds Adrien Cooper, who resigned in February.
Field hockey assistants — Jarred Martin was added to the Duke staff … James Madison selected Ryan Langford as an assistant.
Football — Tennessee linked Phillip Fulmer to a two-year contract extension through the 2013 season.

McElwain will serve as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach while Grady will work with the tight ends … Northern Illinois hired Roy Wittke as offensive coordinator … Keith Patterson was chosen as co-defensive coordinator at Tulsa … Florida State named defensive ends coach Jody Allen special teams coordinator … Iowa State selected Tony Petersen to lead the quarterbacks … Northwestern State promoted Kurt Corbin to defensive coordinator and named Roy Locks defensive ends coach … Army named John Mumford defensive coordinator, Wally Ake cornerbacks coach, Dan Baranik wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator, Tyree Foremen offensive assistant, Justin Hardin defensive assistant, Clarence Holmes defensive line coach, Robert Lyles linebackers coach, Gary Miller special teams coach, John Misciagna tight ends coach, John Tice offensive line coach, Adam Waugh safeties coach and Tucker Waugh running backs coach … Ernie McCook was promoted to assistant head coach at Shepherd. Tovar played eight seasons in the NFL and spent last year as an assistant with the Miami Dolphins … Old Dominion added Brian Scott and Andy Rondeau to its staff. Florida State selected Bob LaCivita as director of player personnel … Pennsylvania selected Bill Schmitz as offensive coordinator … Georgia Southern added Ron Dugans, Mitch Stewart and Bubba Walker to its coaching staff … Kansas State selected Greg Burns to lead the defensive backs … Buzz Preston was tabbed by New Mexico.
Men’s and women’s ice hockey — John Dunham announced his retirement as head coach of the Trinity (Connecticut) men’s ice hockey team after 33 years at the helm. Dunham began his career with the Trinity club hockey team in 1970 and never left Hartford, serving the longest tenure of any coach in school history. During his 33 years with the varsity program, Dunham compiled a 441-206-34 record with 21 postseason appearances. The program has hired associate head coach David Cataruzolo to replace Dunham.
Men’s and women’s lacrosse assistant — Bridgewater State added Jo-Ellen Murgo to its staff. A 2001 graduate of the college, Murgo still holds school records for saves in a season and career.
Men’s and women’s soccer — Kutztown tabbed Erik Burstein as its women’s coach. Burstein previously worked at Bowling Green, where he served as an assistant coach during the 2006 season. He succeeds Jeff Schellenberger, who resigned in December … DePaul selected Erin Chastain as head women’s coach … Towson tabbed Greg Paynter as women’s coach … Regis (Colorado) hired Keith Tiemeyer as coach of the men’s program. He had served as interim head coach since Matt McDowell resigned December 11 … C.W. Post hired Dieter Ficken as men’s coach … Josh Pittman will take over the Mesa State men’s program … Nicole Bartkus resigned at California (Pennsylvania) after five seasons with the program … Cedar Crest selected Todd Ervin as head women’s soccer coach. Ervin most recently served as a men’s assistant at Moravian and is a 1998 graduate of Muhlenberg, where he earned all-Centennial Conference honors three times. He succeeds Brian Exton.
Men’s and women’s soccer assistant — Mount Olive women’s coach Chris Shaw stepped down to become an assistant at Fresno State. Before Shaw’s arrival, the program had never finished above .500 during its nine-year history. Shaw compiled a record of 52-34 during his four-year tenure.
Softball assistants — Hilbert added Lindsey Peltier, Jeannette Testa and Amber Fie to its staff … Bridgewater State (Massachusetts) added Jennifer Connolly to its staff. Connolly was a four-year pitching standout at Merrimack and graduated in 2000.
Men’s and women’s tennis — Chestnut Hill named Albert Stroble head men’s and women’s coach. Stroble will also serve as assistant to the athletics director.
Men’s and women’s volleyball assistants — Kaleena Walters was added to the women’s staff at College of Charleston … Illinois State added Chris Gaskill to its staff.
Staff
Business — Travis Eisentrout was named athletics business manager at California (Pennsylvania).
Development — Charlotte tabbed Dan DeVos as director of the athletics annual fund. DeVos, who most recently served as associate athletics director for marketing and ticket operations, replaces Mike Roach.
Facilities — California (Pennsylvania) hired Ed Whited as director of athletics facilities and services.
Strength and conditioning — Chris Allen was promoted to director of skill development on the West Virginia strength and conditioning staff. He replaces Marcus Kinney. Parker Whiteman will assume Allen’s previous position. West Virginia also hired Jerry Handley as an assistant strength coach … Dave Jenkerson was named strength and conditioning coach at Georgia Southern.
Conferences
The Atlantic Coast Conference named Michael Kelly director of football operations … The Ohio Valley Conference tabbed Michael Blalock as coordinator of volleyball officiating.
Corrections
In the March 12 NCAA News Centerpiece, a comment attributed to Blake Timm about the Pacific University (Oregon) football media guide should have been attributed to Judy Willson of the University of Louisiana at Monroe. Pacific (Oregon) has not sponsored football since 1991.

Duke’s Lindsey Harding was named the 2007 recipient of the Frances Pomeroy Naismith Award, presented annually to the country’s outstanding women’s basketball player 5-foot-8 and under who has excelled both academically and athletically.

Renee DiGiulio-Naismith, 50, died from cancer February 21 in Chicago. DiGiulio-Naismith was the wife of Ian Naismith, the youngest grandson of James Naismith, the inventor of basketball ... Northeast Conference Assistant Director of Communications Bob Balut died at the age of 32 … Former St. Cloud State wrestling coach Willis Wood died March 1 at the age of 75. Wood led the St. Cloud State program from 1958-63 … Former South Florida football student-athlete Javon Camon died last week after being injured in a World Indoor Football League game … Former Georgia Tech lineman Mike Mooney died March 7 … Robert Liddell, a standout at South Dakota State from 1936-38, died in early March … Former Duke team physician Frank Bassett died March 7.
