McElroy signs contract extension at Albany

University at Albany Athletics Director Lee McElroy signed a five-year contract extension that will keep him with the program through 2011.
Now in his seventh year as athletics director at Albany, McElroy has led the Great Danes to 18 conference championships. During his tenure, Albany has made NCAA tournament appearances in men’s basketball, men’s lacrosse, women’s volleyball, softball, and men’s and women’s track and field.
In 2004-05, Albany was awarded the Commissioner’s Cup as the America East Conference’s top athletics program. Last year, the program’s Academic Progress Rate was above the 90th percentile for the third consecutive year.
A former football student-athlete at UCLA, McElroy previously worked as director of athletics at American University. He served as president of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics in 2006-07.
