Arkansas' Broyles announces retirement

Arkansas Director of Athletics Frank Broyles announced his retirement, effective December 31.
A standout quarterback at Georgia Tech, Broyles earned all-Southeastern Conference honors in 1944 and 1946. After graduation, he went on to work as an assistant coach at a number of institutions, including Baylor, Florida and Georgia Tech. In 1957, he became head coach at Missouri and led the Tigers to a 5-4-1 record.
After his one season at Missouri, Broyles was hired as football coach at Arkansas and held that post until 1977. His 1964 team won all 11 of its regular-season games, beat Nebraska in the Cotton Bowl and was voted national champion by the Football Writers Association of America. In 19 seasons at the helm of the Razorbacks program, Broyles compiled a record of 144-58-5.
In 1974, Broyles was named the school’s director of athletics and served in a dual capacity for three seasons before retiring from the coaching profession. During his tenure as athletics director, Arkansas captured 43 national championships.
