Western Washington swept the Eights and Fours grand finals to win its third straight NCAA Division II Women’s Rowing Championship May 27 in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.

The Vikings registered a perfect score of 20 on the day to become the first program in any division to capture three consecutive titles. UC San Diego finished second with 15 points, followed by Dowling and Nova Southeastern.

Powered by Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association all-Americans Lindsay Mann-King and Staci Reynolds, the Vikings rowed the course in 7:03.80 to claim a two-length victory in the Eights. UC San Diego was second at 7.09.51.

Western Washington also posted a decisive victory in the Fours, again defeating UC San Diego by nearly two boat lengths with a winning time of 8:08.72. Nova Southeastern finished third in 8:44.83.

In the Eights petite final, Seattle Pacific crossed the finish line ahead of Florida Tech with a winning time of 7:24.93.

Western Washington head coach John Fuchs said the squad didn’t head into the season thinking about a three-peat. Instead, Fuchs said, the team focused on each individual race.

“It’s pretty amazing that we have been able to put up that kind of success,” he said. “When you work hard, good things happen. I’m really proud of the hard work this team has put forth all year. They have a lot to be proud of.”
