2002 (October 31) — The Division I Board of Directors approves the first stage of the academic-enhancement package designed to strengthen initial-eligibility standards and student-athletes’ progress toward degree.
2002 (November 10) — Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania caps an unbeaten field hockey season by winning the Division II championship game, 5-0, over defending champion Bentley College.

1992 (October 27) — President George H.W. Bush signs anti-gambling legislation that prohibits the spread of state-authorized or state-sponsored sports gambling themes. The Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act of 1992, which is strongly backed by the NCAA and major sports leagues, affects only the creation of new state gambling mechanisms and has no impact on those already in operation such as at Nevada casinos.
1992 (October-November) — The Eastern College Athletic Conference forms the first women’s intercollegiate ice hockey league to begin play during the 1993-94 season. Twelve of the 15 ECAC women’s ice hockey varsity teams agree to join the new league, including Brown, Colby, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, New Hampshire, Northeastern, Princeton, Providence, Rochester Institute of Technology, St. Lawrence and Yale.
1992 (November 15) — Barry University becomes the first two-time Division II women’s soccer national champion when the Buccaneers defeat Adelphi University, 3-2.

1967 (October 24) — The NCAA appoints a committee to study the feasibility of establishing a structure for the development and supervision of women’s athletics. NCAA Secretary-Treasurer Ernie McCoy is named as chair of the seven-member group.
