2006 (July 11-14) — In anticipation of funding approval by the Executive Committee, the NCAA Softball Rules Committee determines a preliminary course of action for bat-compliance testing in 2007. The $30,000 program is designed to test about 30 bats annually. Christi Wade, committee chair and head softball coach and senior woman administrator at Saint Leo University, says the goals is “to use the opportunity to test bats to ensure that the performance of the bats being used in the collegiate game does not exceed the performance standards anticipated in laboratory and during certification testing.”

2004 (July) — The Bowl Championship Series Presidential Oversight Committee announces plans to add a fifth game to the BCS after the 2006 regular season. Rather than add another game, the committee proposes that the current four-bowl BCS arrangement remain in place and that each year, one of those bowls host its regular bowl game and then the national-championship game about a week later.

2002 (August 8) — The Division II Presidents Council supports legislation for the 2003 Convention that would increase the number of high school core courses required for initial eligibility from 13 to 14 in 2005 and increase the grade-point requirement for continuing eligibility.
2002 (August) — The NCAA contracts with CBS and Host Communications to provide championship programs for all 87 NCAA championships beginning with the 2002-03 season. As a result of the arrangement, Host distributed more than 500,000 NCAA championships programs during the 2002-03 academic year.
