2006 (April 27) — The Division I Board of Directors and the Division II Presidents Council adopt emergency legislation that establishes a more comprehensive process for reviewing high schools and individual student academic credentials for the purposes of meeting initial-eligibility requirements.
2006 (April 27) — The Division I Board of Directors appoints a working group to recommend policy changes that will lead to increased academic performance for baseball student-athletes.
2006 (April 28) — The NCAA Executive Committee denies three institutions’ appeals of the policy adopted in August 2005 regarding the use of Native American mascots, nicknames and imagery. A fourth institution is moved to a five-year “watch list,” since the school had removed all imagery and discontinued use of a Native American mascot more than a decade ago and demonstrated that it sufficiently managed the activities surrounding its athletics events so that the environment was neither hostile nor abusive to Native Americans.

2004 (April 18) — The NCAA Rifle Committee proposes adding a 10-shot final round to the championships to determine the individual winners of the smallbore and air rifle events. The change will take effect at the 2005 championships.

1992 (May 12-13) — The NCAA Recruiting Committee endorses developing sport-specific legislation based in part on the suggestion that different rules are needed for different sports, and that more restrictive rules to govern sports such as football and men’s basketball may not be appropriate for other sports such as volleyball, for instance.

1987 (May 12-16) — Courtney Allen of Principia College sweeps the Division III singles and doubles championships to finish her career with six titles (three in singles — 1984, 1985 and 1987; and three in doubles — 1984, 1986 and 1987).
