NCAA names 2007-08 Ethnic Minority and Women's Enhancement Postgraduate Scholarship winners

The NCAA announced the recipients of the 2007-08 Ethnic Minority and Women's Enhancement Postgraduate Scholarships for Careers in Athletics.

 

Developed by the NCAA Committee on Women’s Athletics and the NCAA Minority Opportunities and Interests Committee as a way of increasing the pool of and opportunities for qualified minority and female candidates in intercollegiate athletics through postgraduate scholarships, the NCAA awards 13 scholarships to ethnic minorities and 13 scholarships to female college graduates who will be entering their initial year of postgraduate studies. Each award is valued at $6,000 and is not renewable.

 

Applicants must be seeking admission or have been accepted into a sports administration or related program that will help them obtain a career in intercollegiate athletics, such as athletics administrator, coach, athletic trainer or other career that provides a direct service to intercollegiate athletics.

 

The 2007-08 Women’s Enhancement Postgraduate Scholarship winners are Andrea Brandt, California State University, San Bernardino; Amanda Chester, Wingate University; Lesley Dickinson, James Madison University; Megan Dort, Ashland University; Kathryn Krtnick, University of Wisconsin, River Falls; Lacey Lavarias, University of Utah; Kristina Meissen, University of Wisconsin, Lacrosse; Amanda Pezzullo, University of Missouri, Columbia; Claire Smith, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill; Laura Stanley, Duke University; Amarachi Ukabam, Southern Illinois University, Carbondale; Melissa Venturi, George Mason University; and Audrey Volstad, St. Olaf College.

 

This year’s Ethnic Minority Enhancement Postgraduate Scholarship winners are Derrick Brown, Pfeiffer University; Jose Castillo, Florida State University; Leon Douglas, Missouri Western State University; Joseph Eatmon, University of West Alabama; Christen Garcia, Georgia State University; Shalini Gogawale, Southern Illinois University, Carbondale; Virginia Gonzalez, Citrus College; Annamarie Masinelli, Arizona State University; Candace Perry, Indiana University, Bloomington; Tiffanne Ryan, Southeast Missouri State University; John Temidara, Long Beach State University; Ebony Toliver, Loyola College; and Christina Wright, American University.
