Jan 30, 2006 1:01:01 AM

John Means has been hired as the head women’s golf coach at Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Means succeeds John Rawdon, who resigned.

Means comes from Minnesota, where he led the golf program since 1990. In 11 seasons there, he guided the Gophers to eight consecutive appearances in the NCAA championships and the 2002 Division I national title. After stepping down as head coach, he served as an assistant athletics director for fund-raising and scheduling.

Before his run at Minnesota, Means was head coach at Army for 11 years. The Cadets won their league title each of those years and made eight straight NCAA championships appearances. For the past three years, Means has been a director and consultant with the Mulligan Masters Golf Learning Center in Lake Elmo, Minnesota.

A four-time NCAA district coach of the year and past president of the Golf Coaches Association of America, Means earned a bachelor’s degree at Oklahoma and a master’s degree at Colorado State.
