Timmer succeeds Kevin Vande Streek, who stepped down after a three-year term … Barry Collier resigned as basketball coach at Nebraska to become director of athletics at Butler … Longwood Director of Athletics Rick Mazzuto resigned to become director of athletics at Cal State Northridge.
Wichita State promoted Brian Pracht to senior associate athletics director. The school also promoted Korey Torgerson to associate athletics director … Rice hired David Sayler as senior executive athletics director and Russ Dean as associate athletics director…Tim Cass was named associate athletics director at New Mexico…Northern Illinois appointed Donna Turner as associate director of athletics for communications … Bernard Hill and Rich McGlynn joined the Auburn athletics department as associate athletics directors for compliance … Howard named Kevin Crittendon, Dexter Harris and Karen House as associate directors of athletics.

He replaces Steve Dannhoff … Joseph Teixeira is the new coach at Nichols … Kevin Kocks was hired at Cleveland State. He succeeds Jay Murphy, who spent the past 10 seasons with the program.
Baseball assistants – Vassar added Shawn Abell as an assistant coach … Campbell tabbed Chris Wiley and Brad Schrock as assistant coaches. Wiley replaces Kent Cox, who accepted a similar position at Gardner-Webb. Schrock succeeds Sean Fleming.
Men’s basketball – UCLA signed Ben Howland to a seven-year contract that will keep him in Westwood through 2013 … Charlie Coles signed a three-year contract extension at Miami (Ohio) that will keep him with the RedHawks through 2009 … Lesley hired Scott Willard as its new head coach … Todd Adrian was named head coach at Edgewood. He replaces Steve Larson, who resigned earlier this summer after 20 seasons with the program.
Men’s basketball assistants – Ben Wierzba joined the Southern Illinois-Edwardsville staff … Kyle Keller was named an assistant coach at Oklahoma State … Phil Martelli Jr. joined the men’s basketball staff at Niagara as an interim assistant. Martelli steps in for Matt Dillon, who is away on a leave of absence … Northwest Nazarene hired Brandon Rinta … Woody Kampmann joined the Hobart coaching staff … Indiana (Pennsylvania) named Chris Fite and John Janovsky to its staff … Donald Payton joined the staff at Lock Haven … Darren Kohne has accepted a position as assistant coach at Central Michigan … California (Pennsylvania) added Randy Roth to its staff … Cleveland State hired Bill Buck as director of men’s basketball operations.

She replaces Laquanda Dawkins, who accepted a position at Winthrop … Alpha English and Brianna Finch joined the staff at San Jose State … James Madison hired Laphelia Doss as an assistant coach … Former WNBA all-star Sue Wicks joined the St. Francis women’s basketball staff as an assistant coach … Katie Vieth joined the staff at Northern Kentucky … Lock Haven tabbed Nadia Fercha as an assistant … St. Michael’s named Aaron Dickie as its top assistant. Dickie replaces Kristen Shaeffer, who stepped down after two years with the program … Dionne Dodson joined the staff at Fordham … Jessica Strom was tabbed as a part-time assistant at California (Pennsylvania) … Liberty Del Rosario was named director of women’s basketball operations at Cleveland State.

Gilroy will also serve as an assistant with the track and field program … Muhlenberg hired Will Elson as head cross country coach and assistant track and field coach … Kalamazoo promoted David Dimcheff to head coach of the men’s and women’s programs.

Field hockey – Gillian McDonald has been named head coach at Hamilton. She replaces Tracy Kelleher … Kristan Mallet will take over as head coach at Nichols … Oneonta State announced Lauren Weiner as its new head coach. She takes over for Michele Dombrowski.

Football - UCLA football coach Karl Dorrell agreed to a new five-year contract that will keep him with the program through the 2010 season … Campbell named Dale Steele as its head coach…Tulsa’s Steve Kragthorpe received a six-year extension that will keep him with the program through 2011.
Football assistants – Kris Kocurek and Reuben Vaughn joined the Texas A&M-Commerce staff … Northwestern tabbed Randy Bates as linebackers coach … Former NFL defensive back Kenny Stills has been tabbed as an assistant at East Stroudsburg … Howard added Linwood Ferguson, Nick Calcutta, Michael Hunter and Fred Dean to its staff … California (Pennsylvania) promoted David Cole to a full-time assistant coaching position. The program also added Shawn Rohrer, Lloyd Price and Nicholas LaFear to its staff … Ithaca named Rob Schur as an assistant football and baseball coach … Greg Gigantino joined the Bryant staff.
Men’s and women’s golf – Brandon White was named head women’s coach at Northern Colorado … Montevallo named Jeff Palmer as head coach of the men’s and women’s programs … Chris Hedden was selected as the men’s coach at Mitchell … Troy Tomlin will serve as women’s golf coach at Westminster. He will retain his duties as assistant football coach.
Men’s and women’s gymnastics assistant – Kristen Hoeferlin joined the Auburn women’s gymnastics staff.
Men’s and women’s ice hockey – Quinnipiac men’s coach Rand Pecknold agreed to a contract extension that will run through the 2009-10 season … After four years as an assistant, John Lauziere was promoted to head women’s coach at Southern Maine. He succeeds Amanda Adams, who resigned after two years … Robert Burke was named head women’s coach at Buffalo State.
Men’s and women’s lacrosse - Dave Cornell was hired as head men’s lacrosse coach at Connecticut College. He replaces Dave Campbell, who led Connecticut College to the postseason in two of the past three years … Nichols selected Nathaniel Mayo as its new men’s lacrosse coach … Assumption tabbed Linda Drapeau as head women’s coach. She replaces Deb Draper, who stepped down to concentrate on coaching the field hockey team … Nate Watkins was named men’s coach at Whittier.
Men’s and women’s lacrosse assistant – William Blanchard joined the staff at Georgian Court.
Rowing – William Smith appointed Kristina Latta-Landefeld to serve as assistant coach.
Men’s and women’s soccer - Todd Clark was named head women’s coach at Campbell. He replaces Matt Dillon, who resigned to accept the head coaching position at Lamar … Nichols named Bob Fuqua as head women’s coach … Ferris State selected former professional soccer player Neathan Gibson as its interim women’s coach … Iain Byrne assumed head coaching duties of the men’s program at Oneonta State after serving as interim coach for the past three years … Whittier tabbed Max Gebhardt as head men’s coach … Damian Houlden was promoted to head women’s coach at Mitchell.
Men’s and women’s soccer assistants – Jeffrey Oliver was tabbed as a men’s assistant at Vassar … Keene State tabbed D.J. Nordmark as goaltending coach of the men’s team ... Charles Allen joined the William Smith coaching staff … Becca Stone will join the women’s staff at Cleveland State.
Softball – Chico State tabbed Jamie Brown as its new head coach … Tina Johnson was chosen to lead the Colorado College program. She succeeds Lisa Reimer, who resigned after four seasons with the Tigers … Marcus Smith was appointed head coach at Northwest Nazarene … Georgian Court tabbed Jeffrey Franquet as head coach. Franquet will also serve as coordinator of camps, clinics and outreach.
Softball assistants – Ray Loeser has been hired as an assistant coach at Florida International … Francis Marion named Emily Correll as an assistant.
Men’s and women’s swimming and diving – Gannon hired Gregg Sarbak to head its men’s and women’s programs … George Villarreal was selected to lead the Transylvania program. He replaces Jack Ebel, who led the program for 27 years before taking the school’s athletics director position earlier this year.
Men’s and women’s tennis – Michael Vann was named head men’s coach at Goucher. He replaces Rob Hubbard, who accepted a position as head men’s and women’s coach at Texas-Pan American … Hamilton hired Preston Denby as head men’s coach … Adrienne Ballingall was chosen as head coach at Georgian Court … Texas Christian men’s coach Joey Rive resigned his post after six years with the program … Steve Faulkner was named head women’s coach at Montevallo … Ferris State appointed Jan Talian to the position of men’s coach. Talian replaces Dave Ramos, who resigned in May … Aaron Wilf was hired as head coach at Chatham … Southern Maine selected Lori Towle as head women’s coach. She replaces Ben Putnam … Billy Previdi will lead the men’s and women’s programs at Mitchell.
Men’s and women’s track and field – Mark Elliston has been chosen as head women’s coach at Elon. He succeeds DeAnne Brooks, who resigned after two seasons at the helm … Mike Schmidt was named head coach of the programs at Oneonta State. He succeeds Matt LoPiccolo … Amy Laughlin resigned her post as head cross country and track and field coach at Bryant.

Schlomer had served as the program’s interim coach since March … Allison Gunther was named head women’s coach at Baruch … Hofstra women’s coach Fran Kalafer announced her retirement after 25 years with the program … Orlando Larracuente was named head women’s coach at Howard … Barry Tripp is the new women’s coach at Southern Maine. He succeeds John Razsa, who stepped down after three seasons at the helm … Phi Nguyen was chosen as men’s coach at Lesley.
Men’s and women’s volleyball assistants – Aline Dossantos was named second assistant at Central Michigan … Georgian Court added Alicia Scott to its staff … Chuck Roberson was named to the Keene State women’s coaching staff. Lauren Graham will serve as a student assistant … Jodi Rogert was hired as assistant women’s coach at Missouri Western.
Wrestling – Trinity (Connecticut) hired Keith Poloskey as head coach. He succeeds Michael Gaydos.
Wrestling assistant – Wartburg tabbed Eric Keller as associate head coach. He replaces Dave Malecek, who accepted the top position at Wisconsin-La Crosse.
Academic services – Duquesne announced that former rowing coach Katie Kresho has been named assistant director of student services.
Administration – Virginia added Devin Crosby and Corbin Hunt to its athletics administration staff.
Athletic trainer – Whittier promoted Tami Vahalik to head athletic trainer.
Assistant athletic trainers – Fordham selected J.R. Barkamian and Courtney Hoffman as assistant athletic trainers … Valerie Stevenson was named assistant athletic trainer at Texas Woman’s University. She replaces Keri Strong … Stephanie Weaver was named to the staff at Georgian Court … Northern Kentucky tabbed Eric Brooks as an assistant athletic trainer … Kristi Schluckbier joined the staff at Loyola (Illinois) … Julie Brough will join the staff at Cleveland State.
Compliance – UNLV tabbed Craig Anderson as assistant director of compliance … Elon promoted Catherine Walker to director of compliance.
Development - Greg Sempadian was named athletics development director at San Francisco.
Equipment – Rochester selected Dan Provenzano as equipment manager. He succeeds Clinton Stone, who spent more than three decades in the position.
Marketing – South Dakota tabbed Amy Hultgren as coordinator of athletics marketing and promotions … Peter Ehmke was hired as director of marketing and promotions at Northern Kentucky.
Operations – Chestnut Hill men’s basketball coach Jesse Balcer will assume additional duties as assistant to the athletics director for operations and equipment.
Sports information – Northern Kentucky named Mike Anderson as its assistant sports information director and Web site manager … Kristen DiChiaro was named sports information director at Nichols … Chestnut Hill added Greg Gornick as athletics communications coordinator … Terry Owens was named sports information director at Beloit … Mike DeVine was named an intern at Loyola (Illinois) … Michael Kennett was hired as sports information director at Whittier.

Joanna Kreps and Richard Wanninger were promoted to associate executive directors of the Patriot League … The USA South Athletic Conference hired Mike Christie as sports information director … Peter Hock was named associate commissioner for broadcast services at the Colonial Athletic Association … The Big South appointed Joni Lockridge as marketing assistant … Bo Carter has resigned his post as sports information director at the Big 12 … Melissa Biniewicz was chosen as assistant to the commissioner at the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference … The Big 12 named Nebraska chancellor Harvey Perlman as the 2006-07 chairman of its board of directors … The Northeast Conference named Brenda Weare as its new commissioner. She replaces John Iamarino, who resigned in January to take over the reins of the Southern Conference … The Lone Star Conference selected Melanie Robotham as director of media relations. She replaces Stan Wagnon, now the conference’s interim commissioner.
Mark Meadows took a position in marketing with the newly formed Birmingham Bowl … The Division I-AAA Athletics Director Association chose Hartford Director of Athletics Pat Meiser as president for 2006-07. Also elected to serve for the 2006-07 term were 1st Vice President Lee Reed, director of athletics at Cleveland State; 2nd Vice President Jack McDonald, director of athletics at Quinnipiac; 3rd Vice President Jean Lenti Ponsetto, director of athletics at DePaul; and Secretary Gary Cunningham, director of athletics at UC Santa Barbara. Ken Kavanagh, director of athletics at Bradley, will continue to serve as treasurer. Portland Director of Athletics Larry Williams was added to the executive committee … The Division II Athletics Directors Association has chosen Dave Williams, director of athletics at Wisconsin-Parkside, to serve as president for 2006-07. The name of an individual champion at the 1921 NCAA track and field championships was missing from a list that accompanied a Top 25 Defining Moments feature in the July 17 issue of The NCAA News. Charles Redmon of the University of Chicago won the hammer throw at the championships. Also, University of Washington shot put and discus champion Gus Pope’s name was reported incorrectly in the article, but was correctly cited in the accompanying list.
New York University was selected as the Eastern College Athletic Conference Jostens Institution of the Year. The award is presented annually to the ECAC institution that best exemplifies the highest standards of collegiate academics and athletics performance.
Former Kansas football player Galen Fiss died in July. Fiss captained the NFL-champion Cleveland Browns in 1964 … Georgia basketball player Kevin Brophy died in an automobile accident on Thursday, July 20 … Former Texas football standout Ray Dowdy died on Wednesday, July 26. Dowdy was a defensive tackle on the Longhorns’ 1970 national championship team … Former Alabama-Birmingham football student-athlete Kirk Tuck died last month after battling leukemia. He was 27…Former Ohio State president Harold Enarson died July 28 at the age of 87 … Arkansas Razorbacks broadcaster Paul Eells died in an automobile accident on Monday, July 31 … Former Baylor football assistant Tom Adams died on August 2 at the age of 48. Adams coached the defensive line at Baylor during the 2003 and 2004 seasons. A 1982 graduate of Rice, Adams spent six seasons as an assistant at Kentucky.
