Legendary Michigan football coach dies

Former Michigan football coach Bo Schembechler died November 17 after a battle with heart disease. He was 77.

Schembechler spent 26 years as a head coach, including six at Miami (Ohio), his alma mater. During his tenure at Miami, Schembechler led the team to a 40-17-3 mark and won two Mid-American Conference titles.

After the 1968 season, Schembechler was hired as head coach at Michigan, where he spent the final 20 years of his coaching career. Schembechler won a school-record 194 games, led the Wolverines to 13 Big Ten titles and made 10 Rose Bowl appearances. He was selected as national coach of the year in 1969.

Schembechler finished his career with 234 wins and served as director of athletics at Michigan from 1988-90.
