Ed Bradley loses battle with leukemia

Former Cheyney football and track and field student-athlete Ed Bradley died on November 9 after a battle with leukemia.

After graduating from Cheyney, Bradley went on to become one of the most recognizable faces in journalism during the next 40 years, making his mark as anchor of the CBS Sunday Night News from 1976-81 and as co-editor of 60 Minutes for the past 25 years.

During his coverage of the Vietnam War, Bradley was injured by a mortar round and received shrapnel wounds to his back and arm. He served as a White House correspondent for CBS News from 1976-78.

Bradley won the Emmy Award 19 times during his career. He also received the Peabody Award for his African AIDS report, "Death By Denial," and earned the George Polk Award for his coverage on the plight of Cambodian refugees.
