Hennessy takes over for Marc Samonisky, who retired after 13 seasons in charge of the Blue Hens program.

As an assistant coach at Boston College for the past four years, Hennessy helped the Eagles compile a 42-26-8 record and capture the 2002 Big East championship. He began his collegiate coaching career as an assistant at Rutgers in 2001. In addition, Hennessy, who holds a United States Soccer Federation “A” coaching license, has coached in the Premier Developmental League and the United Soccer League.

A 1990 graduate of Seton Hall, Hennessy was a four-year soccer student-athlete and a member of three Big East championship squads. The all-American earned most outstanding player honors at the 1986 and 1987 Big East tournaments and still ranks second among all-time leaders in points (134) and goals (52). Hennessy, who also played professionally for 12 years, earned a doctorate in molecular biology from Columbia in 2001.
