The Eagles continue to soar in Division III men's track and field. Wisconsin-La Crosse won five events on the way to its third consecutive outdoor team championship May 22-24 at St. Lawrence.

The Eagles, who now have eight overall outdoor titles, also are on a three-year winning streak at the indoor championships. Their 88 points provided a 24-point margin over Lincoln (Pennsylvania), which placed second for the 11th time.

Andrew Rock led Wisconsin-La Crosse with victories in both the 200- and 400-meter dashes. His time of 45.29 seconds in the 400 was one of two meet records established.

Hans Schmidt, also of Wisconsin-La Crosse, pushed the pole vault record to 17 feet, 6 1/2 inches. Schmidt was a repeat winner, having earned first place in the event in 2001.

Derek Toshner gave the Eagles another 10 team points by repeating as the 110-meter high hurdles champion. He also placed second in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles.

Also contributing to the Eagles' win with second-place finishes were Dan Sutton (5,000-meter run), Herc Hyland (long jump) and Mike Turgeon (discus throw).

Wisconsin-La Crosse's fifth event victory came from its 1,600-meter relay unit of Nate Olson, Eric Schmidt, Dan Haumschild and Kris Smith. The five first places ties an outdoor championships record.

Chaz Clemons won the 100-meter dash and Justin Jarmon placed first in the triple jump for Lincoln. Clemons became only the third competitor in the championships' 30-year history to win the same event four times.

Chris Jensen nipped Turgeon by just seven inches to capture the discus for Wisconsin-Oshkosh.

Nick Symmonds of Willamette joined Rock as a double winner after heading the field in the 800- and 1,500-meter runs.

Justin Easter of Bates (3,000-meter steeplechase) and Dan Olson of Wheaton (Massachusetts) (high jump) won their events for the second consecutive year. Peter Wagner of Central (Iowa) returned to the top of the winner's stand for the decathlon after first winning in 2001.
