Running for Habitat — North Park University’s men’s and women’s cross country teams recently organized a 24-hour fund-raiser to collect money for Habitat for Humanity. The student-athletes took turns running on a treadmill to see how many miles they could complete in a day. “Our goal was to run over 175 miles,” said men’s coach Elliott Nott, “but it’s hard to keep your legs moving in the late hours when your body wants to sleep.” Donations were collected either as a flat amount or an amount pledged per mile completed. Half of the proceeds are going to Habitat for Humanity, while the other half will be used for development of the Viking cross country teams. “This is an incredible opportunity for us to use our talents and gifts to better serve others,” said women’s coach Tracey Murnane. “Their truly selfless nature is amazing; during their down time they would rather be active and helping others than enjoying the little free time that they have.”
