Ivory V. Nelson, president of Lincoln University (Pennsylvania), has assumed duties as chair of the Division III Presidents Council, and both of the division’s governing councils also have new vice chairs.

John A. Fry, president of Franklin & Marshall College, succeeds Nelson as vice chair of the Presidents Council, and Val Cushman, director of athletics at Randolph-Macon Woman’s College, has succeeded Sandra L. Slabik of Neumann College as vice chair of the Division III Management Council.

Michael Miranda, faculty athletics representative at Plattsburgh State University of New York, continues to serve as Management Council chair.

The officers’ terms began with adjournment of the Convention.

Nelson, who succeeds Phillip Stone of Bridgewater College (Virginia), is Lincoln’s 12th president and also is the former president of Central Washington University.

The Grambling University graduate holds a doctorate in analytical chemistry from the University of Kansas.

Fry was named Franklin & Marshall’s 14th president in 2002 after serving for seven years as executive vice president of the University of Pennsylvania.

He is a graduate of Lafayette College and also holds a master of business administration degree from the New York University Stern School of Business.

Cushman has headed the athletics department and also served as chair of physical education at Randolph-Macon Woman’s for the past nine years.

The State University College at Cortland graduate earned a master of science degree in sport management at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania and a doctorate in higher education at Syracuse University.

Her predecessor as vice chair, Slabik, continues to serve as a Management Council member.

New Presidents and Management Council members also began service at the end of the Convention.

Joining the Presidents Council are Joseph Bascuas of Medaille College, Pamela Brook Gann of Claremont McKenna-Harvey Mudd-Scripps Colleges and Paul S. Tribble Jr. of Christopher Newport University.

The Management Council’s new members, who were elected during the Division III business session at the Convention, are Larry Glover, director of athletics and men’s basketball coach at Fisk University (Tennessee); Kristen Hall, director of athletics at Bard College; and Jack Ohle, president of Wartburg College.

Convention delegates also elected Kevin McHugh, director of athletics at The College of New Jersey, to a full term following his appointment to the Council last year.

Rudy Keeling, director of athletics at Emerson College, and Del Malloy, director of athletics at Salve Regina University, also recently joined the Management Council to finish unexpired terms.

In addition, Michael Unwin, a student-athlete at Lasell College, joined the Management Council as a representative of the Division III Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
