Helping children — Southern New Hampshire University recently donated another $2,500 to Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth following the recent fifth annual SHNU Fitness Challenge. The event, which has generated more than $14,000 in donations from university students, faculty and staff since its inception, again was organized by Vincent Zuccala, the school’s head athletic trainer. SNHU students collected pledges before this year’s event, and then took part in a variety of activities — including cardio exercises, weightlifting and calisthenics — at the university’s 5,000-square-foot fitness center. Winners in each activity received prizes, and everyone was eligible for raffle prizes. “This is a wonderful event that allows individuals to help themselves through physical activity and exercise, but much more importantly enables us to help children who are not as fortunate,” said Zuccala, who also serves as SNHU’s fitness director. The children’s hospital, which is part of the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, is New Hampshire's only children's hospital and provides the only pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) north of Boston.
