Among events signaling winter in Minnesota is the annual "dome raising" on the campus of St. Cloud State University. Once the fall sports season ends, St. Cloud State covers the playing surface of Husky Stadium with an inflatable dome. The dome-raising project takes two days, and St. Cloud State student-athletes provide the bulk of the volunteer labor. The teams reverse the process in the spring, when they are called to action once again to help take the dome down. Once the project is finished, the Husky Dome provides indoor practice space for the school’s athletics program along with activity space for intramurals and community use.
