Miscellaneous: Duquesne University has unveiled a new look for its 20-sport intercollegiate athletics program. The primary mark, a determined top-hatted Duke with a flowing cape above the words "Duquesne Dukes," replaces the script "Duquesne" used by the department since fall 1998. "The release of our logo — in addition to re-branding our program — signals a new approach to how we do business," said Athletics Director Greg Amodio. "We feel our new marks are aggressive, bold and contemporary and will only enhance the image of Duquesne and its athletics programs." Rickabaugh Graphics of Columbus, Ohio, created the new identity program. The new logo is part of the department’s overall identity update, which includes the school working with CSTV in redesigning and updating its Web site ...

The Big South Conference also unveiled an enhanced logo as part of its annual football media day kickoff luncheon in Charlotte, North Carolina. The new trademark is an enhanced version of the previous mark adopted in 1998. The enhanced logo features a bolder, sleeker and forward-motion look. "The Big South Conference has undergone dramatic changes since its last re-branding eight years ago," said Commissioner Kyle Kallander. "Football is now our 18th sport. Four new members have joined the league. We have launched academic and leadership programs for our institutions and student-athletes. While our membership wasn’t ready to completely abandon our previous brand, we felt that an updated, fresher, and bolder look would better symbolize the Big South in 2006."
