A memorandum addressing the Division III Financial Aid Reporting Program recently was mailed to presidents and financial aid directors at all Division III institutions.
The memo from the Division III Financial Aid and Awards Committee included an overview of the financial aid review process adopted by the membership at the 2004 Convention. The program requires Division III member institutions to electronically submit data to the NCAA for use in analyzing whether student-athletes and nonathletes are receiving comparable financial aid, as required by legislation.
It also included an explanation of the calculation of financial aid variance and a timeline for the July 1 launch of the program.
Also, institutions that participated in last year's division-wide pilot of the program received the resulting reports for their school. The report indicates the calculated variance of student-athletes' financial aid packages from those of other students at that institution, based on data submitted during the pilot study.
Financial aid directors at all Division III institutions also received the Division III Financial Aid Program User's Manual, which features information on the reporting process and timeline, program policies and procedures, and technical information about the Financial Aid Data Management System.
Those materials also are available online at www.ncaa.org.

The application deadline for the 2005 NCAA Leadership Institute for Ethnic Minority Females in Indianapolis is April 15. Application materials for the 12-month leadership training and skills development program are available by clicking HERE. (PDF)
The 2005-06 curriculum includes sessions devoted to leadership, personnel, finances, and developing relationships with the public and the media. The institute closes with a week-long workshop, where participants will examine the practical applications of the skills they have learned.
The program begins in June 2005, and will have regular meetings until the week-long workshop in June 2006. Participants must be nominated from NCAA institutions or conference offices. Enrollment is limited to 25 participants, and each woman must complete four consecutive weekend development sessions before enrolling in the week-long workshop.
Each participant's institution or conference must provide travel and lodging costs. However, upon completion of the program, participants are eligible to apply for a $3,000 scholarship toward costs incurred during the institute. Participants selected from Division III are also eligible to receive an additional scholarship upon selection.
The institute is part of an effort to address the critical shortage of senior-level ethnic minorities at member institutions and conferences.
