O'Neal retires from AD post at Wellesley

Wellesley's Louise O'Neal announced plans to retire as director of athletics and physical education, effective June 30, 2006.

O'Neal, formerly a member of the Division III Management Council, has been at Wellesley since 1990 and also holds a faculty rank of professor there. Before coming to the school, she completed a 10-year stretch at Dartmouth, and served as head women's basketball coach at Yale from 1976 to 1979. O'Neal also compiled a 184-62 record and earned bids to eight straight national collegiate championships as head women's basketball coach at Southern Connecticut State from 1962 to 1976.

In addition to her service on the Management Council, O'Neal has been a member of the NCAA Long-Range Planning Committee and the Women's Basketball Rules Committee, and she recently finished a term as chair of the Division III Women's Golf Committee. She was on the International Games Selection Committee for the U.S. Olympic Committee from 1976 to 1980.

Selected as National Administrator of the Year in 1994 by the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletics Administrators, O'Neal earned a bachelor's degree from North Texas and a master's degree from Wisconsin.
