The Interpretations Subcommittee of the Division II Legislation Committee issued the following interpretations:

Nonchampionship Segment Athletically Related Activities for Sports with a Fall Championship at Institutions on the Quarter System

For institutions operating on the quarter system, the permissible 24 days of nonchampionship segment activities for sports with a fall championship must be conducted within 45 consecutive calendar days, and institutions shall not conduct practice and competition from the time period of seven calendar days prior to the first date of the institution's final examination period until the first day of classes for the spring quarter. A member institution shall not commence practice sessions or engage in outside competition in the noncham- pionship segment before February 15. For institutions on the quarter system only, it is permissible to exempt from the 45-day count the seven days prior to the examination period in the winter quarter as well as the days of the institution's examination period and the days of the institution's official vacation period between terms. For these institutions, the 45-day segment count shall resume beginning with the first day of classes of the spring quarter and concluding after no more than 45 total segment days.
