Conference Call No. 16
July 13, 2005

Acting for the Division I Management Council, the Division I Legislative Review/Interpretations Committee issued the following interpretations:

Recruiting/Noninstitutional Camps and Clinics/Basketball

1. Employment of Basketball Student Managers at Camps and Clinics. The committee determined that student managers who are full-time students and have responsibilities specific to basketball may be employed at institutional or noninstitutional camps or clinics other than their own institution's camps or clinics. [References: NCAA Bylaw 13.13.2.3.1 (institutional/noninstitutional privately owned camps/clinics -- basketball).]

Eligibility/Change in Eligibility Status

2. Eligibility for Postseason Competition Between Terms -- Definition of Business Days. The committee determined that for purposes of certifying a student-athlete's eligibility for postseason competition between terms (pursuant to the six credit hours per term requirement) within 14 business days after the date of the institution's last scheduled examination, a "business day" is any weekday that is not recognized as a national holiday, including any weekday during which an institution is closed for other reasons (for example, holiday break). [References: Bylaw 14.1.10.2 (eligibility for competition -- between terms) and Proposals Nos. 2004-17 and 2004-17-1.]

Eligibility/Credit-Hour Requirement

3. Use of Concurrent Enrollment Courses to Satisfy Credit-Hour Requirements. The committee determined that traditional courses taken at another institution during a regular term while enrolled full-time at the certifying institution may be used to satisfy the six credits per term and 18-semester or 27-quarter credit hours per academic year requirements, provided:

  • The courses taken at the second institution would count toward full-time enrollment at the certifying institution; and
  • The courses taken at the second institution will be included on the student's transcript at the certifying institution. [References: Bylaws 14.1.8.2.4 (concurrent courses at two institutions) and 14.4.3.4.9 (credit from other institutions).]
