Conferences: The South Atlantic Conference Council of Presidents has accepted an application of membership from Lincoln Memorial University, which will become a member of the conference July 1, 2006, and eligible for conference championships and awards in the 2006-07 season. "We know Lincoln Memorial will be a fine addition to the South Atlantic Conference," said Commissioner Doug Echols. "It is an excellent academic institution with a strong history of competitive athletics teams. Our presidents see Lincoln Memorial as a perfect fit academically and athletically." Lincoln Memorial Athletics Director Jay Nidiffer said: "We plan to work hard to make this conference proud. Now, we can develop rivalries with people we were rivals with 100 years ago -- Carson-Newman, Tusculum and Mars Hill." Lincoln Memorial has been a member of the Gulf South Conference since 1992.

Miscellaneous: Fairmont State University senior guard Ashley Reed established an NCAA women's all-divisions basketball record December 4 by making 16 three-point field goals in a 120-62 victory over Columbia Union College. Reed connected on 16 of 27 three-point shots en route to scoring 50 points, a West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference record. She topped the previous all-divisions record of 15, set in 1994 by Michelle Jones of Division III William Paterson University of New Jersey. Lara Thornton of California University of Pennsylvania held the Division II record with 12 three-pointers in a 1994 game against Clarion University of Pennsylvania. The 27 attempts also tied Reed with the University of South Carolina at Aiken's Janell Gerk for the Division II record ... The University of South Carolina Upstate has received the 2006 National Fastpitch Coaches Association/Turface Field Maintenance Award for Cyrill Softball Stadium. The award recognizes coaches and groundskeepers for excellence in field maintenance and facility upkeep. South Carolina Upstate received an NFCA regional award in 2003. In December 2004, the institution added chairback seating and a press box.
