Division II Football Championship

Dates and sites: All preliminary-round games are on campus sites. First-round games are November 12, second-round games are November 19, quarterfinals are November 26 and semifinals are December 3. The championship game is December 10 at Braly Municipal Stadium in Florence, Alabama.

Field: Twenty-four teams, six from each of four regions.

Selection date: November 6.

2004 champion: Valdosta State.

Top contenders: Grand Valley State, North Dakota, Valdosta State, Bloomsburg and Albany State (Georgia) were the top five ranked teams in the October 18, American Football Coaches Association poll.

Championship notes: Grand Valley State will be seeking its third national title in the last four years ... North Dakota leads the nation in scoring defense, allowing just 9.0 points per game ... Bloomsburg's Jamar Brittingham was the nation's leading rusher as of late October, averaging 179.3 yards per game ... Albany State is allowing opposing quarterbacks only a 78.7 passing efficiency rating, which leads the nation ... Valdosta State has won 22 of its last 23 games.

 

Division II Men's Soccer Championship

Dates and sites: Preliminary-round games are at campus sites. First-round games will be November 10-11; second-round games November 12-13; and quarterfinals November 19-20. The semifinals and final will be December 2 and 4 at Midwestern State.

Field: Twenty-four teams, three from each of eight regions.

Selection date: November 7. M2F2004CA

W2O2004CQ 2004 champion: Seattle.

Top contenders: Fort Lewis, Southern Illinois Edwardsville, Dowling, Saint Leo and Seattle Pacific composed the top five in the October 25 National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll.

Championship notes: Fort Lewis leads the NSCAA poll for the first time since it held the top spot for two weeks in 2000. The Skyhawks have played in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference tournament every year since it began in 1997 ... Southern Illinois Edwardsville dropped its first game of the season, but won or tied every other game for the remainder of the regular season ... Dowling goalkeeper Nemanja Veljovic helped the Golden Lions to an unbeaten season, winning conference goalkeeper-of-the-week honors for the final three weeks of the season ... Saint Leo is enjoying unprecedented success in 2005 with its first conference championship in sight as the season came to a close ... Seattle Pacific hopes to return to its first NCAA tournament since 2000.

 

Division II Women's Soccer Championship

Dates and sites: First- and second-round games will be November 11 and 13, and quarterfinals will be November 19 or 20 at campus sites. The semifinals and final will be December 1 and 3 at Wichita Falls, Texas.

Field: Thirty-two teams, four from each of eight regions.

Selection date: November 7.

2004 champion: Metropolitan State.

Top contenders: Metropolitan State, Seattle Pacific, West Florida, West Chester and Franklin Pierce were the top five schools in the October 25 National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll.

Championship notes: Following up on their national championship season in 2004, the Metropolitan State Roadrunners finished the regular season undefeated, bringing their win streak to 43 consecutive games overall ... With two matches remaining in the regular season, Seattle Pacific is unbeaten in its last 55 matches ... Before the 2004 season was canceled after only three matches because of Hurricane Ivan, the West Florida Argonauts had appeared in three straight NCAA Division II tournaments and four in the last five years ... West Chester's Julie Karcher has tallied 32 points and 15 goals this season, bringing her to second on the Golden Rams career goals list with 39. After scoring two goals in an October 29 match against Bloomsburg, Karcher also became second in career points with 92 ... Franklin Pierce has been to the NCAA Division II tournament every year since 1992. The team made it to the semifinals every year until 2003 and was national champion from 1994 through 1997 and in 1999.

 

Division II Women's Volleyball Championship

Dates and sites: All matches will be played on campuses of participating institutions. Eight regionals will be conducted November 17-19 or 18-20, and the quarterfinals, semifinals and final will be played December 1-3.

Field: Sixty-four teams.

Selection date: November 13.

2004 champion: Barry.

Top contenders: Nebraska-Kearney, Hawaii Pacific, Tampa, Concordia-St. Paul and Minnesota Duluth were the top five ranked teams in the October 25 College Sports Television/American Volleyball Coaches Association poll.

Championship notes: Erin Gudmundson of Nebraska-Kearney has compiled more than 2,000 kills in her career ... Hawaii Pacific's Barbara Martin ranks fourth nationally with a .449 hitting percentage ... Tampa has appeared in the last 130 AVCA polls ... Concordia-St. Paul's Cailin Terhaar leads the nation with 14.59 assists per match ... Minnesota Duluth made its first appearance in the Division II Elite Eight in 2004.
