The Division II Men's and Women's Tennis Committee reviewed bids from prospective hosts for the 2007 and 2009 championships at its July 11-13 meeting in San Francisco.
Committee members also reviewed bids for the Division II National Championship Festival in 2008, which includes the tennis championships.
Committee Chair Jon Mark Hall, athletics director at the University of Southern Indiana, said reviewing the bids and discussing the championship took up a significant portion of the meeting.
"It was a lot of talk about reviewing the championship from this year and how to improve it in the future, even though we had a really good championship," Hall said.
The Division II Championships Committee will have the final decision on host sites for the championships and the Division II festivals. That group meets September 11-14 in Indianapolis. The festival will take place over a 10-day period in the spring of 2008.
In other business, the tennis committee asked the Championships Committee to increase the stipend for host institutions. They currently receive $500, and the committee wants that to increase to $750 to cover both administrative costs associated with hosting the event and payment of officials. Officials' fees have increased significantly without an increase in the hosting stipend.
The Championships Committee also will consider that recommendation at its September meeting.
