Kate Hickey of Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, New Brunswick, has been elected as vice-chair of the Division I Management Council. Hickey, who also chairs the Council's legislative review subcommittee (LRS), began her term as vice-chair of the Council at the group's July meeting in Garden Grove, California.

Hickey, an associate director of athletics at Rutgers, has been a Big East Conference representative on the Council since 2002. Her term runs through April 2007.

The legislative review subcommittee Hickey chairs is responsible for reviewing all proposed legislation in Division I and providing feedback and recommendations to the full Management Council. As LRS chair, Hickey also presides over a legislative review forum at the Council's meeting in conjunction with the NCAA Convention each January that generates membership debate on the more controversial proposals in the legislative cycle.

Hickey joined the Rutgers staff in 1999 as an assistant athletics director. Her responsibilities at Rutgers include overseeing the NCAA compliance program for the athletics department. She is also responsible for the day-to-day oversight of 11 Olympic sports programs, student services and the Life Skills program. Hickey also serves as a co-advisor for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, and she chairs the school's Title IX Committee. Hickey was named Rutgers' senior woman administrator in September 2000.

Before her appointment at Rutgers, Hickey served as assistant director for compliance at the Big East, a post she accepted in 1996. Before that, she was the assistant commissioner for compliance at the Southern Conference. Hickey began her career in college athletics at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, in 1992, working in the areas of game operations, compliance and academic support.

Hickey received her undergraduate degree in health and physical education from the University of Rhode Island in 1992 and her master's degree in sport administration from North Carolina in 1994.

Also, Chris Dawson from the Pacific-10 Conference is serving as chair of the Division I Championships/Competition Cabinet through July 2006.

Dawson was named assistant commissioner of Olympic Sports at the Pacific-10 in August 2001. She also coordinates the league's student-athlete advisory committee.

Before joining the Pacific-10, Dawson spent 23 years at the University of California, Berkeley, serving as associate athletics director for sport programs and senior woman administrator from 1992 to 2001. She also was the school's women's sports information director from 1979 through 1989.

She is a 1975 honors graduate of the University of Virginia, where she was a student-athlete in basketball. She earned a master's degree in education, with emphasis in sport administration, from Ohio University in 1979.
