Dates and sites: First-round games are November 26, quarterfinals are December 3 and semifinals are December 9-10, all at campus sites. The final is December 15 at Finley Stadium/Davenport Field in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Field: Sixteen teams, including eight automatic qualifiers. The remaining eight teams will be selected at large.
Selection date: November 20.
2004 champion: James Madison.
Top contenders: New Hampshire, Hampton, Montana, Southern Illinois and Massachusetts were the top-ranked teams in the November 8 USA Today/ESPN coaches poll.
Championship notes: New Hampshire quarterback Ricky Santos has thrown for 2,693 yards and 29 touchdowns, and wide receiver David Ball has caught 15 of the scoring throws ... Hampton running back Alonzo Coleman has surpassed 1,000 yards for the third consecutive season ... Montana was the national runner-up in 2004 ... Southern Illinois coach Jerry Kill suffered a seizure near the end of a game October 15 but returned to the sidelines a week later ... Massachusetts leads the nation in scoring defense, allowing just 10.6 points per game.

Championship notes: Nebraska has spent 51 weeks atop the AVCA poll, which ties it with UCLA for the most weeks spent at the top in the poll's history ... Washington began the season 22-0 and only four of the matches lasted more than three games ... Penn State has reached the 22-victory plateau in each of Russ Rose's 26 seasons as coach ... Stanford has captured six national titles and has advanced to the semifinals or beyond 15 times ... Florida has captured 15 consecutive Southeastern Conference titles.
