The Women's Water Polo Committee opened the bid process for institutions interested in hosting the championship in 2009 or 2010. The committee took the action at its meeting July 11-13 in Indianapolis.
Bid packets will be prepared and delivered before the end of the year, and all bid proposals will be due to the national office by March 1.
Sites and host institutions already have been determined through 2008. The 2006 championship will be at the Schaal Aquatics Center in Davis, California, hosted by the University of California, Davis. In 2007, the championship will be at the Joint Forces Training Base in Los Alamitos, California, and Long Beach State University will host. Stanford University will host the 2008 championship at the Avery Aquatic Center.
In other business, the committee is requesting an increase in the travel party size from 19 to 20. The increase will match the travel party size with the bench party size. The request will be considered by the Championships/Competition Cabinet in September.
Members also asked the cabinet to approve the following five conferences for automatic qualification for the 2006 championship: the Collegiate Water Polo Association, the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and the Western Water Polo Association. This is the second year for the increased number of teams receiving automatic qualification for the eight-team bracket.
The committee also elected Dan Smith, associate athletics director for compliance at Loyola Marymount University, to serve as the committee chair for the next year.
