Machli Joseph, assistant athletics director of facilities and operations at Bernard Baruch, has been named as head women's basketball coach at the school.
Joseph, who joined Bernard Baruch in March 2002, has served as an assistant men's basketball coach for the past two years.
Before accepting the post at Bernard Baruch, Joseph worked as the operations manager at Seton Hall. He also has completed one-year stints as an assistant director for marketing and championships at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference in 1999-2000 and as an assistant men's basketball coach and intramural/recreation assistant at East Stroudsburg in 1998. In addition, Joseph was the head men's soccer coach and assistant men's basketball coach at Centenary (New Jersey) in 1997.
Joseph competed as a basketball student-athlete at Kemper Military Junior College before transferring to St. Mary's (California), where he completed his collegiate basketball career and earned a bachelor of arts degree in sports management in 1996. Joseph earned a master's degree in sports management from East Stroudsburg.

Charles Harris was selected as director of athletics at Averett to replace the retired Vesa Hiltunen. Harris, who formerly served as commissioner of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference and was athletics director at Pennsylvania and Arizona State, currently is a partner with Excel Development Systems, Inc., a private management and consulting firm based in North Carolina ... LeTourneau announced Duane Trogdon as director of athletics. For the past five years, Trogdon has served as athletics director, head men's golf coach and head football coach at Huntingdon ... Maine Maritime Athletics Director Bill Mottola retired after 36 years ... Jerry Larned was named as athletics director at McMurry to succeed Steve Keenum, who will continue as head football coach. Larned has been president of Avis Lube and vice-president at Kent Oil Company since 2000 and formerly has worked as a coach and athletics administrator at the high-school, senior college and junior college levels.

Loyola Marymount elevated Maria Behm to associate athletics director of business affairs and promoted Dan Smith to associate athletics director for compliance. Behm has been with the school for 10 years and has spent the past six years as assistant athletics director for business. Smith has been at the school since 1997 and has been assistant athletics director for compliance since 2000 ... Idaho State elevated Paul Bubb to senior associate athletics director. For the past eight months, Bubb has worked as assistant athletics director for development.

John Shaffer was promoted to assistant athletics director for sports information and media relations at Loyola Marymount. For the past four years, Shaffer has worked as director of athletics media relations ... Towson hired Robin Truiett-Theodorson as assistant athletics director for compliance services. Mike Patterson was selected as offensive line coach and Joe Crousen was selected as defensive coordinator at McMurry. Men's and women's golf -- Missouri's Tim Robyn resigned as head men's coach ... Quincy hired Brian Hendrian as head women's coach. Hendrian takes over for Troy Conover, who stepped down.
Men's and women's gymnastics -- Pat Panichas relinquished head coaching duties at Southern Connecticut State. Panichas, who will continue with the school as a member of the exercise science faculty, has guided the program for 28 seasons.
Men's and women's ice hockey -- Guy Gadowsky was named as head men's coach at Princeton. Gadowsky has been head coach at Alaska Fairbanks since 1999. Alaska Fairbanks elevated former assistant coach Tavis MacMillan to head coach. MacMillan has been working in compliance at the school since last year ... Union (New York) named Tim Gerrish as head women's coach.
Men's and women's lacrosse -- Melissa Michels resigned as head women's coach at Lafayette ... Butler head coach Craig Kahoun resigned ... Tara Caminiti-Raggett resigned as head women's coach at Guilford ... Delaware head women's coach Denise Wescott resigned. Wescott has led the program to a 104-86 mark in 11 seasons.
Men's and women's lacrosse assistant -- Farmingdale awarded Deana Ward with additional responsibilities as assistant women's coach. The program is scheduled to begin varsity competition in 2005-06. Ward will continue as senior woman administrator and sports information director at the school.
Men's soccer -- Bill Lawler was hired as head coach at Manhattanville to replace Chris Smith. Lawler formerly was an assistant at Babson and George Mason.
Men's soccer assistant -- Adrian Cox resigned after three years as an assistant coach at Bradley to become varsity boys' soccer coach at the Episcopal Academy in Philadelphia.
Women's soccer -- Penn State Behrend hired Patrick O'Driscoll as head coach. For the past year, O'Driscoll has served as head men's and women's coach at Mercyhurst Northeast Junior College and formerly worked as an assistant women's soccer coach at Penn State Behrend during the 2001 and 2002 seasons ... Ohio Northern named Mark Batman as head coach ... Erin DeMarco accepted responsibilities as head coach at Oswego State. Most recently, DeMarco has served as interim head women's soccer coach as well as assistant men's lacrosse coach and as an athletics administrative intern at Vassar.
Women's soccer assistants -- Indiana State named Brock Thompson as an assistant coach ... Katie Kruse and George Cook were added as assistant coaches at Vermont ... Kristen Gay was chosen as an assistant coach at Indiana State to replace Rozie DeWeese, who resigned to become an assistant at UC Davis.
Softball -- Sharlene Peter announced plans to retire after 23 years as head coach at Quincy. Peter, formerly associate director and coordinator for women's athletics at the school, also formerly guided the field hockey, women's volleyball and women's basketball programs at Quincy ... Annette Hunt-Shepherd was named as head coach at Ohio Northern.
Men's and women's squash -- Pennsylvania will not renew the contract of head women's coach Jim Martel.
Men's and women's swimming and diving -- Valparaiso chose Bryan Morrison as head swimming and diving coach.
Men's and women's tennis -- Sheryl Sattler resigned as head women's coach at Bradley. Sattler was an assistant men's and women's coach at the school before taking over as head women's coach in December 2000.
Men's and women's volleyball -- Limin Jin resigned as head women's coach at Wayne State (Michigan) ... Bernard Baruch named Jennifer Manicad as interim head women's coach. Manicad, an assistant with the program for the past two years, replaces Krishna Dass ... Junior Garcia resigned as head men's and women's coach at Lehman ... Cindy Fredrick resigned as women's coach at Washington State to become head coach at Iowa ... Limestone named Tim Loesch as head women's coach ... The Development -- Hardee McCray was named as assistant director of development at the Longhorn Foundation at Texas. McCray has been football defensive ends coach and recruiting coordinator at the school for the past six seasons.
Conferences
West Coast Conference chose Jae Wilson as director of communications. Wilson has been a media relations assistant at Stanford.
School name changes
West Virginia State College officially changed its name to West Virginia State University.
Corrections
The school at which Bill "Doc" Hadley served as head athletic trainer was incorrectly listed in the May 10 edition of The NCAA Record. Hadley, who recently died, was head athletic trainer at McMurry for 20 years.
The school where Michelle Bedesem Linder was recently appointed head field hockey coach was not listed in the May 10 issue of The NCAA Record. Linder recently took over the program at Arcadia.
Notables
Emeka Okafor was named as the inaugural College Sports Television Student-Athlete of the Year. Okafor, a senior, led Connecticut to the 2004 Division I men's basketball national championship, earning recognition as the Most Outstanding Player for the Final Four. Okafor, the 2004 academic all-American of the year, completed his career with the Huskies with 53 career double-doubles and ranked first in career field goal percentage (59 percent) and career blocked shots (441).
Deaths
Connecticut College President Emerita Rosemary Park Anastos died April 17. Anastos was 97.
Paul W. Cook Jr., former president at Wabash, died April 7. Cook was 77.
Canisius (New York) men's basketball student-athlete Richard Jones died May 5 after collapsing in practice. He was 21. Jones, who had finished his junior season, started 47 games and played in a total of 88 games for Canisius, averaging 5.2 points and 4.3 rebounds for his career.
Former Pittsburgh men's basketball coach Robert Timmons died April 29 at the age of 92. Timmons led the Panthers to four postseason tournament appearances in 15 seasons from 1953-68.
Kenneth Boyce "Ken B." Jones, former Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association commissioner, died May 9. He was 74. Jones, the league's first full-time commissioner, guided the MIAA from 1981 until his retirement in 1997.
Former Louisiana Tech football offensive lineman Shannon Willie Babineaux died May 7 at the age of 25. Babineaux was a member of the football squad during the late 1990s and graduated in 2002. He had been teaching and coaching football and track at the high-school level.
Fred C. Davison, former president at Georgia, died April 28. Davison was 74.
