Changes to championships, including new selection criteria, were along the topics discussed at the Division II Women's Volleyball Committee meeting February 9-12 in Key West, Florida.

The committee proposed adding the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference to the list of those conferences receiving automatic qualification. If approved by the Division II Championships Committee, this would become effective for the 2004 championships.

Changes also were proposed for selection criteria. Committee members recommended that when teams under consideration are tied on all criteria, the committee would look at the following: head-to-head competition, results within region, results against common opponents, regional strength-of-schedule index, Division II strength-of-schedule indexes and Division II overall record results.

The committee also discussed realignment issues.

Effective this year, the bracket for the championship will be expanded from 48 to 64 teams. This involves expanding from a six-team regional format to an eight-team format.

Kathleen Brasfield from Angelo State University was selected as chair of the committee, replacing Julie Sandoval from California State University, Dominguez Hills.
