Cal State Bakersfield made quick work of winning its 13th team title at the Division II Men's Swimming and Diving Championships, jumping out to a 46-point lead on the first day of the four-day meet and coasting to 132-point win over defending champion Drury.

The championships were March 10-13 at the Flickinger Center in Buffalo, New York.

The Roadrunners have swapped titles with Drury over the last several years, winning in 1998, 2000, 2001 and 2002 and finishing second to the Panthers in 1999 and 2003.

Cal State Bakersfield upped its lead to nearly 100 points after the second day of the meet, buoyed by a record-setting performance from the 400-yard medley relay team of Seth Dawson, Greg Mroz, Bobby Dmytrow and Piotr Gegotek. The foursome finished the race in 3:17.62, almost a second better than the mark Oakland set way back in 1992. Mroz and Gegotek also participated on the Roadrunners' record-setting 800-yard freestyle relay team. That group also erased a more-than-decade-old record with a time of 6:34.57, two seconds ahead of another Roadrunner quad in 1991.

Cal State Bakersfield also won the 200-yard medley relay as part of six-event victory package that put the Roadrunners over the top.

Gegotek and Mroz were integral factors beyond the relay events. Gegotek captured the 100- and 200-yard freestyles, while Mroz took first in the 500-yard freestyle, beating Drury's distance specialist Henrik Weible, who won the 1,000- and 1,650-yard events. Mroz finished second and third, respectively, in those events.

Drury sophomore Jakub Jiracek was named swimmer of the meet after winning four events -- both breaststrokes and both individual medleys. Drury's Nathan Brisley was named diver of the meet after finishing second in the three-meter event won by North Dakota's Mike Hahn, and fifth in the one-meter dive won by Hahn's teammate, Kasey Moseley.

"Overall, we won more individual national championships this year than in any other year. We swam real well overall as a team and it was a pretty successful meet," said Drury head coach Brian Reynolds. "We just did not have the depth we needed to win the team title."

North Dakota's Fernando Alves was the meet's other multiple event winner, sweeping the butterfly events. North Dakota's third-place finish in the team standings also was aided by Rodrigo Ferreira's record-setting performance in the 100-yard backstroke. Ferreira's time of 48.19 broke a record that had stood since 1993.
