Dan Mara, associate vice-president for athletics at Teikyo Post University, and Roberta Page, director of athletics at Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania, have been elected to serve on the Division II Management Council.
Mara will represent the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference, which recently earned active NCAA membership status. Page will represent the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, replacing Diane Husic, who took a position with a Division III institution.
Mara has been at Teikyo Post for eight years. He joined the institution as director of athletics in 1995 and was promoted to associate vice-president in 2002. During his tenure, the Teikyo Post program has grown from five varsity sports to 12.
Mara was named CACC athletic administrator of the year in 1997-98 and in 2000-01. He currently serves as CACC vice-president and chairs the conference's ethics and membership committees. He is also a member of the NCAA Northeast Regional Advisory Committee for the Division II Men's Basketball Committee.
Mara started his career in intercollegiate athletics at Mitchell College in 1976 as sports information director. He began coaching as assistant softball coach and assistant basketball coach in 1977 before becoming Mitchell's baseball coach in 1979. He became head women's basketball coach in 1984 and also served as head softball coach in 1990 and 1991.
He reached two NJCAA national semifinals with the women's basketball team, compiling a career record of 289-16. During his tenure Mitchell established a national record for consecutive regular-season victories. The streak, which ultimately reached 234, was at 223 straight when Mara left Mitchell to become director of athletics at Teikyo Post in 1995. Mitchell was undefeated in regular-season competition every season from 1987 until his departure in 1995.
Mara holds a degree from Roger Williams College as well as a graduate certificate from the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics.
Page was hired in January 2000 as the associate director of athletics at Shippensburg and then served as the interim director of athletics from December 2001 until June 2003, when she was appointed director.
Since joining the Shippensburg staff, she has helped maintain the institution's winning traditions. Shippensburg earned the 2003 and 2004 Dixon Trophy, which is awarded by the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference to the member institution with the best overall athletics program. This was the fourth time in the eight-year history of the award for Shippensburg to capture the honor.
Presently, Page is an active member of the NCAA Division II Men's and Women's Track and Field Committee and serves on numerous campus and statewide committees.
Page received her bachelor's degree from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania, where she played basketball and softball. She earned her master's degree from McDaniel College. In addition, Page holds a doctorate from Duquesne University in educational leadership.
