Division I Women's Basketball Issues Committee
August 31-September 2/Key West, Florida
- Did not support Proposal No. 2004-48, which would permit the use of the one-time transfer exception by four-year transfers in all sports. The committee noted that an ad hoc group, which includes representation from the women's basketball community, is reviewing this issue.
- Noted support from the Collegiate Commissioners Association regarding the establishment of a national basketball officiating Web site, which will provide weekly video clips of plays that may be widely reviewed by basketball officials, coaches and conference coordinators of basketball officials. The committee noted that the Web site will require coordination with the conference coordinators of officials and that the national coordinators and national office staff are working to coordinate its effective implementation.
- Recommended Patriot League Executive Director Carolyn Schlie Femovich as chair of the committee to replace M. Dianne Murphy. Murphy is leaving the committee because she recently accepted the director of athletics position at Columbia University, a move that changed the committee's current subdivisional composition. The committee commended Murphy, who has provided leadership for the group since its inception in 2002.
