Facilities: Wichita State University's two-year "Roundhouse Renaissance" campaign was completed December 20 when the school dedicated its Charles Koch Arena during the men's basketball game against the University of Tulsa. "Roundhouse Renaissance is the most significant administrative event in the history of our program," said Jim Schaus, Wichita State director of athletics. "It has changed the face of our program forever. Every aspect of the athletics department has changed overnight, from recruiting, attendance at events and fund-raising, to fan enthusiasm and staff morale." The student-athlete facilities include the Preferred Health Systems Multi-Purpose Center, locker room areas, and Devlin Court. The Geist Student Services Building and Southeast Taylor Concourse area houses the Barry and Paula Downing Academic Learning Center, the Insurance Management Financial Group/
Bill and Dorothy Cohen Athletic Administrative Offices, and Kouri Champions Club. Among many other features is the Pizza Hut Shocker History Museum, which will feature static displays representing the history of Wichita State athletics, while two large plasma screens tell the history in video format. "We did not want to have a sterile-looking facility that was too new," Schaus said. "We met our goal of a new facility that strategically blended in our tradition and heritage." The new basketball floor is a spring-loaded biochannel floor similar to those in use in NBA facilities, and bears the name of donor Tom Devlin.

Milestones: University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, head women's basketball coach Pam Borton won her 100th career game when Minnesota downed Creighton University, 82-71, December 4. The win was Borton's 31st at Minnesota to go with 69 wins Borton compiled in four seasons at the University of Vermont. "I'm more concerned about how our team does than how many wins I have," Borton said afterward.
