Ameen Najjar, who has served as legal counsel for the City of Indianapolis Police Department (IPD) since 1993, has joined the NCAA staff as a director of enforcement.
Najjar, who had served at IPD since joining the force as a patrol officer in 1984, will serve as one of six directors supervising field investigations by the NCAA enforcement staff.
He fills a position previously held by Mark Jones, a member of the enforcement staff since 1986 and director of enforcement since 1989.
Jones, who has been serving as managing director of enforcement, left the NCAA staff to join Ice Miller, a legal and business services firm with headquarters in Indianapolis.
Najjar supervised and provided legal and investigative guidance for internal affairs case investigations, among numerous other responsibilities as IPD's legal counsel. He became legal counsel after serving as assistant counsel for more than five years.
He served as a patrol officer from 1984 until moving to the legal counsel's office in 1987.
Najjar also has served as a part-time associate attorney with the Indianapolis law firm of Miller, Waters, Martin & Hall since 1994. He also served during the 1991-92 academic year as an ad-
junct assistant professor at Michigan State University, teaching undergraduate criminal law process courses.
He earned a bachelor's degree in 1984 from Michigan State, where he pursued dual majors in political science and criminal justice and also competed on the varsity rowing team. He also received a law degree from Indiana University, Bloomington, in 1990.
