Wisconsin-La Crosse continued its streak of men's track and field team titles in impressive fashion March 14-15 at DePauw, winning its third consecutive Division III indoor championship.

The Eagles, who also are riding a two-year streak in the outdoor championships, scored 71 points, the most in the indoor meet's 19-year history.

Wisconsin-La Crosse's 37-point margin over second-place Wisconsin-Oshkosh also is a championships record.

The Eagles' 10th indoor title overall, most in Division III, was highlighted by Andrew Rock's repeat victory in the 400-meter dash. Rock also lowered the meet record for the second year in a row, this time covering the distance in 46.96 seconds.

Hans Schmidt also was an event winner for Wisconsin-La Crosse, capturing the pole vault at 17 feet, 1 inch. Schmidt was the pole vault champion at the 2001 outdoor championships.

Rock teamed with Charlie Wittleder, Kris Smith and Derek Toshner for another meet record. The quartet won the 1,600-meter relay in 3 minutes, 13.68 seconds, eclipsing the 3:15.12 time set by a Lincoln (Pennsylvania) unit in 1992. That was the second-oldest existing meet record, with only the triple-jump standard set by North Central's Jan Cado in 1990 having stood longer.

Herc Hyland placed second in the long jump for the Eagles.

Wisconsin-Oshkosh was led by Matt Groose, who won the 800-meter run for the second consecutive year and ran a leg on the victorious distance medley relay team. Bret Blake (55-meter dash) and Lee Seeberger (triple jump) earned first places for Nebraska Wesleyan.

In addition to Rock and Groose, Mark Miller of Keene State and Ryan Bak of Trinity (Connecticut) also won indoor individual events for the second time. Miller returned to the top spot in the 1,500-meter run after first winning the event in 2001. Bak captured the 5,000-meter run this year; he was the 1,500 champion in 2002.
