The Division II Women's Golf Committee forwarded several recommendations to the Division II Championships Committee to enhance the championship and increase competition during its annual meeting June 18-20 in Naples, Florida.

The committee recommended to have regional transportation paid for, to expand the travel party from six to seven, and to expand the national championship field from eight to 12 teams and eight to 12 individuals. The Championships Committee will decide on those proposals in September.

In other regional format items, beginning with the 2005 regionals, the committee is proposing that Sunday be the practice day with competition on Monday and Tuesday. On Monday, participants would play 36 holes, then 18 holes on Tuesday. The committee has made this change to accommodate student-athletes' exam schedules and to reduce missed class time. Currently, the format is Monday as the practice day and Tuesday and Wednesday as competition days.

The committee discussed a three-day competition schedule but decided to keep the regional as a two-day format with one practice day.

In other action, the committee:

Determined the dates for regional ranking calls for 2004 as April 1, 8, 15 and 22. Selections will be April 26, with regionals May 4-5 and the championships conducted during the Division II Sports Festival in Orlando, Florida, May 11-14.

Voted that beginning with the 2003-04 season, 25 percent of opponents must be Division II in-region competitors. The committee hopes this will encourage in-region play and will make the selection process more accurate.

Thanked the Sunshine State Conference and the Central Florida Sports Commission for hosting the 2003 championships. The University of Findlay, Southwest State University, Florida Southern and Northeastern State University also were commended for their efforts as regional hosts.
