After winning a championship, some teams have to rebuild. In Division II women's tennis, Brigham Young-Hawaii reloads instead of rebuilds.

The defending champions downed Barry, 5-3, at the Division II Women's Tennis Championship May 12 for their fourth title in five years.

The Seasiders' title defense started in doubles play. Adrienn Hegedus and Judy Weng, along with Anna Anikanova and Amy Sun, gave Brigham Young-Hawaii its first two points. Barry took the last doubles point behind Valeria Papandrea and Greta Trotman.

In singles, Hegedus shut out Barry's Conny Grunes, 6-0, 6-0, at the No. 1 slot. Gurianna Korinihona followed suit with a quick win against Carole Steinhauser at No. 6 singles.

An upset at No. 3 gave the Buccaneers a crucial second point and Papandrea added a win at No. 5 singles. But the scoring stopped there for Barry.

The matches at Nos. 2 and 4 singles went to third sets. The Seasiders' Weng downed Victoria Courmes, 6-0, 4-6, 6-1, to clinch the title.

The Seasiders finished the season 37-0. They have won 169 of their last 170 matches. The win, coupled with the men's team's win, makes Brigham Young-Hawaii the first NCAA Division II school to register repeat titles in both men's and women's tennis in the same years.
