Division I

Dates and site: The championships will be June 11-14 at Sacramento State.

Field: A total of 544 athletes will compete in the championships. Athletes qualify by finishing in the top five in each individual event and in the top three in each relay event at four regional meets May 30-31. In the heptathlon and 10,000-meter run, athletes qualify directly to the national championships by reaching the automatic and provisional standards established.

Selection date: The spots remaining in the field after the automatic qualifiers are entered will be filled from the descending-order list of qualifiers June 2.

2002 team champion: South Carolina.

Top team contenders: LSU, South Carolina, Southern California, UCLA.

Athletes to watch: Aleen Bailey and Tiffany Ross, South Carolina; Londa Bevins, Arkansas; Becky Breisch, Nebraska; Laura Gerber, Florida State; Charlette Greggs, Miami (Florida); Vicky Gill, Florida State; Lolo Jones and Muna Lee, LSU; Raasin McIntosh, Texas; Lena Nilsson and Chaniqua Ross, UCLA.

Division II

Dates and site: The championships will be May 22-24 at Southern Illinois-Edwardsville.

Field: A total of 310 athletes will compete in the championships. Athletes qualify by reaching the automatic and provisional standards established for each event.

Selection date: The spots remaining in the field after the automatic qualifiers are entered will be filled from the descending-order list of provisional qualifiers May 12.

2002 team champion: St. Augustine's.

Top team contenders: Abilene Christian, Ashland, Lincoln (Missouri), North Dakota State, St. Augustine's, Western State.

Athletes to watch: Cadriesha Akinfe and Libia Rodriguez, St. Augustine's; Adriane Blewitt, Ashland; Shandria Brown and Moya Thompson, Lincoln (Missouri); Sopagna Eap, UC Davis; Amber Miller, Angelo State; Naquisha Moulton, Texas A&M-Kingsville; Andrey Sung, UC San Diego.

Division III

Dates and site: The championships will be May 22-24 at St. Lawrence.

Field: A total of 344 athletes will compete in the championships. Athletes qualify by reaching the automatic and provisional standards established for each event.

Selection date: The spots remaining in the field after the automatic qualifiers are entered will be filled from the descending-order list of provisional qualifiers May 19.

2002 team champion: Wheaton (Massachusetts).

Top team contenders: Lehman, Lincoln (Pennsylvania), McMurry, Wartburg, Wheaton (Massachusetts), Williams, Wisconsin-La Crosse.

Athletes to watch: Paulette Baldwin, Lehman; Missy Buttry, Wartburg; Jenn Campbell, Williams; Kathy Darling, Johns Hopkins; Darcell Edwards, McMurry; Deena Heins, Wisconsin-Oshkosh; Muffy Israel, Carthage; Amber James, Wheaton (Massachusetts), Diana Lawson, New Jersey City; Megan Wiseman, Lynchburg.

There has never been an individual who has won three events in a year in the Division I championships. The feat has been accomplished twice in Division II and four times in Division III.
