The Division I Management Council has appointed a legislative review subcommittee to assist in managing the many legislative proposals that move through the Division I cycle.
The subcommittee, composed of Management Council members, is responsible primarily for developing a legislative consent package for the Management Council's consideration and designating proposals for consideration by the Management Council as emergency/noncontroversial legislation.
Those named to the subcommittee are Beth Chapman, associate commissioner of the Southland Conference; Alison Cone, senior associate director of athletics at California Polytechnic State University; Helen Grant, associate commissioner of the Sun Belt Conference; Ted Gumbart, associate commissioner of the Atlantic Sun Conference; Kate Hickey, assistant director of athletics at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, New Brunswick; Scott Kretchmar, faculty athletics representative at Pennsylvania State University; Jo Potuto, faculty athletics representative at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln; and Robert Vowels, commissioner of the Southwestern Athletic Conference.
In addition to managing the Council's legislative agenda, the subcommittee also will:
Identify proposals that the Board of Directors could delegate to the Management Council for the Council's sole consideration, thereby allowing the Board of Directors to focus its attention on broader issues and on developing a vision for Division I.
Recommend issues for discussion at the NCAA Convention forums.
Identify for the Council the implications and ramifications of pending legislative proposals or amendments.
